Dear Friends in Faith, The Burlington fireworks, watched from North Beach, were beautiful.  Gary and I biked from our home in the New North End to North Beach to join the throngs of people gathered to celebrate Independence Day.  There were young families and groups of teens, older couples and gatherings of friends.  “People-watching” before the fireworks began, I thought how the crowd assembled on the beach represented our country ~ diverse in age, race, political view, economic status, religious belief, but united. At the conclusion of the show everyone applauded and then, courteously, made their way out of the park. (Gary and I then had to bike home in the dark, which turned out to be more fun than we expected!) Below you will find a prayer for unity of spirit and the ability to see God’s beauty in everyone.  Further down are announcements about some events and opportunities in our church and community. Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth In a world which cares more for the needs of self than others, and is increasingly becoming more inward-looking and fractured, give us a heart for the vulnerable, the refugee, the forgotten, the lost; a heart that is based on yours, poured out for the needs of many and not for the comfort of a few. Give us a heart which looks out and sees your beauty in all people, and welcomes them as a friend. Amen. ~ Faith and Worship Pastor Kristabeth’s Schedule and Office Hours Week of July 9-15: (Schedule may change as visitation needs and other pressing matters arise.) Dear Friends in Faith, Independence Day is next week, and our thoughts turn to the celebration of freedom.  Often the 4th of July is filled with cook-outs, family get-togethers and fireworks.  We are blessed to live in a country where we have the freedom to gather, the freedom to worship and the freedom to hold different opinions.  The rich diversity of our country is what gives us our strength. This Independence Day I invite you to consider how you can use your freedom to make the world a better, safer place for someone else.  May we not take our freedom for granted, but may we use our freedom to do God’s will.  Be safe this Independence Day! Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.  ~ Book of Common Prayer Pastor Kristabeth’s Schedule and Office Hours Week of July 2 – 8: (Schedule may change as visitation needs and other pressing matters arise.) Children’s Table in Sanctuary For those children who are too old for the nursery, but too young to be expected to sit quietly for an hour, we have set up an activity table in the sanctuary.  Children are not required to be at the table.  They are welcome to play at the table for part or all of worship, as they would like.  There are coloring sheets, books, and games available.  If you have an older child who would like to sit at the table and engage with the younger ones as a helper, that would be great too! We hope this creates a space in which parents can worship and children feel welcome and included.  Children are a blessing to our church and our worship experience, with all the joy and enthusiasm they bring! Dear Friends in Faith, This week I share with you some words from our Bishop, Sudarsharna Devadhar.  Scroll further down in the e-mail for information about what’s happening at Faith UMC! Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:  Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Like many of you I am deeply concerned and disappointed by President Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord.  As United Methodists, as Christians, we are committed to being good stewards of God’s magnificent creation. It is up to us to protect and sustain this amazing, abundant gift – not just for ourselves, but for all the generations to come.  This decision, which puts so much in jeopardy, is even more alarming because it seeks to isolate us further from the world community.  I am proud to share this statement from the Council of Bishops urging the president to reconsider this damaging decision.  I encourage you to read it, share it widely, and lift it up in your prayers on Sunday as we celebrate the birth of the Church.  Climate Accord Statement In Christ’s love, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar Pastor Kristabeth’s Schedule and Office Hours Week of June 11-June 17: (Schedule may change as visitation needs and other pressing matters arise.)

Dear Friends in Faith, Children’s Sunday is one of my favorite Sundays of the year ~ and not because I don’t have to preach   On Children’s Sunday the children lead us in worship which, it seems to me, is the way God intended it to be.  In Matthew 18 Jesus tells the disciples,  “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  As adults we can get bogged down in the politics and minutia of church life (and life in general).  Children remind us that the important things are joy, compassion, hope and trust. Below you will find a prayer for our children.  Further down are announcements about our Faith community life together. Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Bless our children, Lord, growing up into a future that is difficult to predict. Protect them, guide them and give them wisdom to see above and beyond the tempting choices this world may offer, that they might become the people who, in your eyes, they were always meant to be. ~ Faith and Worship   Pastor Kristabeth’s Schedule and Office Hours Week of June 4-June 10: (Schedule may change as visitation needs and other pressing matters arise.)

Dear Friends in Faith, Sometimes a rainy day is really nice!  When warm weather comes to Vermont we feel we must seize the moment.  There is so much yard work to do and so many outside projects to tackle, not to mention the hikes and rides and sports that beckon to us once the snow melts.  So every once in a while it is nice to have a rainy day to remind us to slow down and take a breath.  On days like this I like to sit at the window and just watch the rain fall while thinking about how the rain blesses God’s creation.  Today I invite you to do the same. Below you will find a prayer celebrating God’s creation, down to the smallest element.  Further down are some announcements about our Faith community life together. Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Every creature, every plant,
every rock and grain of sand
proclaims the glory of its Creator,
 worships through color, shape,

with the whole of your creation,
in praising you, our Creator,
 through the fragrance
and melody of our lives.
