Faith UMC Update June 9, 2017

Dear Friends in Faith, This week I share with you some words from our Bishop, Sudarsharna Devadhar.  Scroll further down in the e-mail for information about what’s happening at Faith UMC! Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:  Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Like many of you I am deeply concerned and disappointed by President Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord.  As United Methodists, as Christians, we are committed to being good stewards of God’s magnificent creation. It is up to us to protect and sustain this amazing, abundant gift – not just for ourselves, but for all the generations to come.  This decision, which puts so much in jeopardy, is even more alarming because it seeks to isolate us further from the world community.  I am proud to share this statement from the Council of Bishops urging the president to reconsider this damaging decision.  I encourage you to read it, share it widely, and lift it up in your prayers on Sunday as we celebrate the birth of the Church.  Climate Accord Statement In Christ’s love, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar Pastor Kristabeth’s Schedule and Office Hours Week of June 11-June 17: (Schedule may change as visitation needs and other pressing matters arise.)

Dear Friends in Faith, Children’s Sunday is one of my favorite Sundays of the year ~ and not because I don’t have to preach   On Children’s Sunday the children lead us in worship which, it seems to me, is the way God intended it to be.  In Matthew 18 Jesus tells the disciples,  “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  As adults we can get bogged down in the politics and minutia of church life (and life in general).  Children remind us that the important things are joy, compassion, hope and trust. Below you will find a prayer for our children.  Further down are announcements about our Faith community life together. Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Bless our children, Lord, growing up into a future that is difficult to predict. Protect them, guide them and give them wisdom to see above and beyond the tempting choices this world may offer, that they might become the people who, in your eyes, they were always meant to be. ~ Faith and Worship   Pastor Kristabeth’s Schedule and Office Hours Week of June 4-June 10: (Schedule may change as visitation needs and other pressing matters arise.)

Dear Friends in Faith, Sometimes a rainy day is really nice!  When warm weather comes to Vermont we feel we must seize the moment.  There is so much yard work to do and so many outside projects to tackle, not to mention the hikes and rides and sports that beckon to us once the snow melts.  So every once in a while it is nice to have a rainy day to remind us to slow down and take a breath.  On days like this I like to sit at the window and just watch the rain fall while thinking about how the rain blesses God’s creation.  Today I invite you to do the same. Below you will find a prayer celebrating God’s creation, down to the smallest element.  Further down are some announcements about our Faith community life together. Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Every creature, every plant,

Faith UMC Update April 13

Dear Friends in Faith, Blessed Holy Week!  This week we remember Jesus betrayal, crucifixion and, ultimately, resurrection.  It is a week of ups and downs, highs and lows.  Because Jesus endured what he did during his life, we know that he understands our pain and sorrows.  And, because Jesus was raised, we know that the sorrows of this life are not the end of the story.  We’ve been promised the hope of eternal life, eternal joy. Below you’ll find information about worship opportunities this week and other important announcements and events, including an adult study starting after Easter and a scholarship opportunity for our college students.  May your faith and life be enriched this week as we follow Jesus to the cross and discover the empty tomb. Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Jesus, Lamb of God, when you walked this earth you did not consider heavenly equality, though that was yours to choose, but took the role of servant, and in humility and obedience allowed the rough nails of our sin to be hammered into your flesh for the sake of our salvation. And so it is that we acknowledge you as Lord of all, to the glory of God the Father, Son and Spirit, Three. ~ Faith and Worship Pastor Kristabeth’s Schedule and Office Hours Week of April 16-23: (Schedule may change as visitation needs and other pressing matters arise.) Faith UMC Update: Thursday, April 21

Dear Friends in Faith, It has been a tough few weeks for our church family, as we have lost several members and friends.  Last Saturday Jim Thomas died.  Tomorrow we will celebrate his life with a Funeral Service in the Sanctuary at 10am.  I may be late to my Barnes & Noble Hours tomorrow as I will be traveling with the family for the burial at 2pm.  Even as we say good bye to friends and companions in Christ, we know that death is not the end.  As St. Paul asks, “Where,O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is your sting?”  The gift of Eternal Life is one of the may gifts that God gives to us out of God’s great love. Below you will find a prayer of thanksgiving and awareness for God’s abundance.  Scroll down to find information about what is happening in your faith community! Your Friend in Faith, Pastor Kristabeth Creator God, forgive our moments of ingratitude the spiritual blindness that prevents us from appreciating the wonder that is this world the endless cycle of nature of life and death and rebirth. Forgive us for taking without giving reaping without sowing. Open our eyes to see our lips to praise and our hands to share May our feet tread lightly on the path we tread and our footsteps be worthy of following for they lead to you. ~ Faith and Worship   Pastor Kristabeth’s Office Hours:  Week of April 25 Monday:  Pastor’s Sabbath, Traveling to Lawrence MA for Connectional Table Meeting Tuesday:  Traveling Home from Lawrence, MA Wednesday:  Office in the Morning, Afternoon Visitation, Evening Meeting of the Trustees Thursday:  Morning Meeting of the VT Domestic Violence Council in Montpelier,  Bible Study at 2pm Friday:  Office in the Morning, Writers’ Workshop 10:30am, Open Hours Barnes & Noble 3:00-5:00pm Saturday:  Pastor’s Day Off Sunday:  Morning Worship, Meeting of the Parsonage Task Force, Confirmation Class at 4:30pm Schedule may change as events of the week unfold.   Sunday Service April 24 Theme: Unconditional Giving:  Eternal Life Scripture: John 13:31-35, Revelation 21:1-6 Sermon:  Just Like New Stewardship Moment:  Beyond our Doors   Membership Conversations Are you thinking about membership?   Maybe you want to know more about Faith Church or United Methodism in general?  If you’d like to start a conversation about membership at Faith, plan to stay for a bit after church on May 1st to meet with our Lay Leader.  At that time we’ll set a schedule (usually three sessions) for those who want to continue the conversation.
